Over the years, parents have often asked what they can do to help their children become better readers. The answer always involves more reading.
Children, like adults, tend to read more if they are interested in what they're reading. And many children, like adults, find that they read more if they get interested in reading books in a series. Getting children interested in series books increases reading volume, and also increases the likelihood that the reader will encounter new vocabulary which leads to better comprehension.
Many children also have interests in various topics. Encouraging your child to read widely on those topics will help him or her develop deep conceptual knowledge as s/he becomes an expert in those areas.
